My story is short and sweet.
My goal is to make Pennsylvania "smaller" by making hometowns aware of what their favorite "sons and daughters" are accomplishing these days.
When I graduated from Hickory High School, Mercer County in 1979, I headed to college in Rochester, NY for two years and then ended up in the tiny village of Grantham, PA for the next several years of my life. I now live just across the creek from Grantham in a township called Monaghan that is actually in the zip code of the "big borough" of Dillsburg, PA. Were you able to follow all of that?
HometownProud is my "weekend warrior" project. I am not much of a handyman. I am not artistic and my daughter-in-law, Ingrid, won't let me hunt, so I have decided to build this cool website that recognizes people, the places where they now live or work and any passions that they might have.
I had to choose a starting point with a strategy.
I am starting by recognizing current college athletes and other alumni from colleges that are members of what is known as the "Christian College Coalition". I am limiting my search to PA high school graduates and then the site is designed to "trace" them back to their high schools.
I spent many years of my adult life at three of these fine schools: Roberts Wesleyan College, Messiah University (B.A. in 1983 and served for 14 years) and am now employed by Eastern University where I have the pleasure of directing the Harrisburg branch campus. My son, Jordan, graduated from Eastern in 2016 and has been serving their Admissions Department since then. He got to play baseball there, coaches a travel baseball team (one of his passions) and has spent significant time volunteering in prisons in El Salvador (another passion).
While I am exceedingly proud of Jordan, I am building this site to recognize thousands of other folks who are representing their hometowns admirably. Feel free to use it as a "directory of achievers". Support their businesses or causes. Celebrate their achievements and most of all, please feel free to nominate someone to be included on the site or request that you, yourself, be added! I appreciate all feedback.
